3. A person who seeks calm of mind should not involve himself in too many pursuits, whether private or public, nor take on tasks that exceed his strength or natural abilities. He should remain vigilant, so that when fortune favors him and tempts him toward excess through deceptive appearances, he keeps its value in perspective and does not attempt what lies beyond his capacity. A measured sufficiency is preferable to excess.
