That each of us, whether we are aware of our partition or not, contributes to the harmony – or dissonance – of the whole.

This idea allows us to see the world in a completely different way, findind a poetic explanation for why things are the way they are.

where do you place yourself,
in this huge orchestra of life?

Perhaps you see yourself as the one who is the center of attention, who attracts all eyes and cameras and who embodies his role perfectly. But if you take a step back, you may feel more like the flutist in the background than the star violinist in the front row.

If this thought crosses your mind too often, remind yourself that each musician in the orchestra has a unique partition to play. If you compare your melody to someone else's, you ignore the richness and diversity of the music we create together.

Would the play of the star violinist sound the same without the inconspicuous flutist? World Statemen and women, international pop stars, talented footballers - don’t they all share this planet with you, me and a few other 7 billion people? And would their existence even make sense without us?

We also have our roles to play, no matter how big or modest they may be.

In our quest
for significance ____ and recognition,
we easily get caught up in the game of comparison, envying someone else's role and wishing we were in a different spotlight. Yet your contribution, whatever it may be, is exactly what it should be in the grand concert of the universe. Each of us is here for a reason, every note we play, every silence we keep, fits into a greater harmony.

When you have found your place in this orchestra, you should not measure yourself against the others around you, but ask yourself: “How can I play my part as authentically and sincerely as possible?" Your task is not to be this other virtuoso violinist or a restrained flutist, but to be yourself and bring your own color to the collective work.

Accept your place in this orchestra
by not trying to be like the others,
but by celebrating what only you can bring to the universal music. In this acceptance and celebration of our uniqueness lies the true harmony that Marcus Aurelius describes.
