Everything rests on one essential part of the teaching: a deep understanding of your place in the universe
It’s a deliberate choice 1.
A bit of a risky one, but I’ve decided to stick with it.
I know a lot of people land on the App Store, type in “Stoicism,” download the
app… and want to dive straight in: how to control their emotions 2, reach
wisdom, face their fears, or stop overthinking.
The kind of deeply human, deeply urgent questions.
I get it. You want concrete answers—right now. And the first version of the program was exactly that. Straight to the tough stuff. Techniques and advice. Keys to dive headfirst into the practical side of philosophy. But the deeper I went into studying Stoicism, the more I realized that everything rests on one essential part of the teaching: a deep understanding of your place in the universe—your place in the cosmic sense. What you are. What the world is. Truly integrating this worldview means understanding, right from the start, all the practical advice that follows in this program. The idea that your path is woven into a larger Whole is the cornerstone of everything. It’s the structure that holds up the entire palace. Without it, everything wobbles. Everything collapses. You can try to “control” your emotions 2, but if you don’t know why they’re there, or how they fit into the order of things, then you’re just patching a dam without understanding the ocean.
So don’t be surprised—or put off, I hope not.
Give yourself time.
If this philosophy is calling to you, then you’re setting off on a path that’s long, but deep. And when I say long, I mean years—but trust me, it’s worth it.
And anyway… it’s just a few articles to start with. Then we’ll head straight into what many call the practical side. Ethics, in philosophical terms. Behavior. The everyday.
But first, we need to lay the foundation.
What the Stoics called physics.
Not physics as in labs and equations—but in the older, broader, more beautiful
sense: the structure of the world, the reason that orders it, Nature with a
capital N. Everything that quietly upholds our search for a good life.
But don’t worry, we’ll go step by step.
And I’ll be right here to guide you.
